What’s New at The Bard’s Town?

Louisville is commonly recognized by out-of-towners as a place to visit if you’re interested in bourbon, horses, and country music. One thing that people do not expect out of Louisville is its burgeoning comedy scene. The Bard’s Town is one of several well-known establishments around town that is successfully changing outsiders’ outlook on this topic.

The Bard’s Town is located in the heart of the Highlands, an area that is known for its cultural diversity, creativity, and bohemian disposition. The venue itself has become known as a performance venue that doubles as a bar and restaurant. They regularly host a comedy showcase that revolves around interactive games for the audiences and comedians. The comedy scene is taken more seriously within the walls of The Bard’s Town and the host of such shows doesn’t let just any comedian perform there, as is the case with other performance venues around town.

Sean Smith is a veteran comedian in the area. He has performed at The Laughing Derby, Groucho’s, The Bard’s Town, and, generally speaking, at all the local stand-up venues around town. Smith is not afraid to face the reality of the cards he has been dealt.

Jax Howie, another local comedian, said, “In his most recent comedy routines he (Smith) has used his hardships as fuel for his bits.” Howie is showing his support for Smith by attending tonight’s show at The Bard’s Town and offering his services as a comedian.

The Young, Dumb and Full of Comedy Show is hosted every other Friday night at The Bard’s Town on Bardstown Road. Tonight only the show has switched its title and main purpose to focus on the needs of a local comedian, Sean Smith, who will be performing there at 10pm. The show is being called The Young, Dumb, and Full of Generosity auction. It is free for patrons and comedians are auctioning off artwork and other miscellaneous goodies to the crowd. The proceeds from this auction will go towards Smith whose home recently burned down. Smith will be performing as the headliner at the show.
